Flying the PAV

It looks a bit different from your average airplane…

First flight is always an exciting day. The first flight of a brand new kind of vehicle? Even more so!

The Passenger Air Vehicle, or PAV, is a type of aircraft with vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) capability. Unlike airplanes, the PAV uses eight vertical lift rotors to get off the ground.

Once in the air, the PAV flies forward using the propeller in its tail. This allows it to produce lift from the wings, making commuter flights very efficient by combining some of the advantages of helicopters with the advantages of airplanes.

Check out more vehicles that have VTOL capabilities (like the AH-64 Apache, the CH-47 Chinook, and the V-22 Osprey) by visiting www.boeing.com/defense.

For more information, check out the PAV on Aurora's website. Or, see the Cora by Wisk air taxi.
